Toddler Bedtime
Toddler bedtime battles happen almost every night in our home. It seems as though our toddler just doesn't want to sleep. He no longer takes naps and he doesn't like to go to sleep until late at night. While many experts suggest that our toddler will get the sleep they need when they need it, I think it is only appropriate to atleast have a bedtime routine established to help with the bedtime process. Our area of concern is that we want him to go to bed earlier each night.
When it is nearing bedtime, there are a few things I do to start the process of getting ready to go to sleep. These bedtime routine quick tips may help you out too.
1.) Give your toddler a small snack.
2.) Bath your toddler. I use the soothing/calming Lavender body wash.
3.) Put on toddler's pajamas
4.) Read some books or put on some easy listening or soft classical music. ( I have been guilty of not doing the part of the classical music). We usually read but I have some lullaby music that I am going to try this week in hopes to calm my toddler down more and make the transition easier.
5.) After reading, turn the lights down and if you child needs it, I suggest rocking them. I don't see anything wrong with rocking your toddler to sleep. After all, its's not like you will be rocking them forever. They grow up so fast so cherish the time you have and allow them to need you.
Most parents probably already do these steps above but some of you may find this useful. I hope it has proven to be useful for you.

Noone else may like this idea, but I rock my 3 yr old with the lights off and I watch something that I know he won't like. Like Andy Griffith or something that I like. That way, I get to hold him, he gets to sleep, and I get some tv time! lol
Hey I do that too sometimes! LOL
I do this sometimes too, or my husband does. Other times he tires himself out so much all day that by 8-9pm he just crashes on the couch and then we put him to bed.

I think the key to any successful bedtime is sticking with a routine. For us, it's bathtime at 6:45, Wheel of Fortune at 7:00, read a book with mom or dad at 7:30 and off to bed between 7:45 and 8:00. I also make sure he goes down for a nap at the exact same time every day...he used to fuss if he wasn't quite tired enough, but now he's a pro...he grabs his stuffed animals, says "night night" and he's out in a minute. I think kids rely on routine as kind of a safey blanket. Sometimes it's a rocky start, but it usually ends up being better for kid and parents in the long run.

My wife and I used to have this same problem, as I'm sure many other couples do as well. A lot of the suggestons do work. But as the children got a little older and started developing minds of their own we found a T.V. program that helped end this problem. An educational television series entitled My Bedbugs was an instant hit with the kids. It has lessons for the kids to learn and songs to sing along with, but most importantly promoted bedtime. If you have not heard of this T.V. show feel free to glance at their website. MyBedbugs.com. Hope this helps all of you sleepless parents out there!
