Top Toddler Mom Blog of The Week #2

Congratulations to our 2nd Top Toddler Mom Blog of The Week, BubandPie

Read her interview below and then go visit her site and tell her we sent you.

1)Please tell Us more about yourself

I am a part-time university English professor and full-time mother
(through the magic of online teaching) to two children: my toddler,
whom I refer to on my blog as the Bub (age 2.5 yrs.) and my baby Pie,
11 months. My husband just graduated from law school, so we are
eagerly awaiting the joys of paying off student debt. When I was a
little girl, inspired by people like Emily of New Moon and Harriet the
Spy, I always wanted to be a writer. Then I grew up and became more
accustomed to analyzing other people's writing than creating my own.
Now (again through the magic of the Internet) I feel like I'm finally
beginning to find my own voice again.

2)Tell us about your toddler

We all know that every child is unique, but the Bub, perhaps, is
evidence that some are more unique than others. (Grammar alert!
"unique" is not a comparative term! Okay, I'm putting the red pencil
down.) The Bub is a young Encyclopedia Brown, engaged in a constant
study of the laws of physics ("If I push my sister, will she fall
down?") and the principles of chemistry ("If I mix my carrots into my
yogourt, will they combine to create an explosive substance I can use
to achieve world domination?"). He loves numbers and animals,
concentrates with fierce intensity, and keeps his mother firmly in her
place.

3) What is the best thing about having a mom blog?

Um, the renewed sense of purpose in life? The attention? The
validation that people actually want to read what I write? Um, scratch
those. The best thing about having a mom blog is the motivation it
provides to record all the things about my children, and about my life
right now, that I will want to remember, and laugh and cry over, when
I'm eighty.

Toddler Tuxedos

Both of my boys, ages 5 and 2, will be in a wedding this August. We took them to be measured for their rental tuxedos. After being measured we asked the costs of renting the tuxedos and found out they were quite expensive for children. We then looked online at a few children's tuxedo shops and found out that we could buy the same tuxedos for half the price of renting the toddler tuxedos. I was very relieved. Our two boys will now own their own tuxedos.

My husband and I plan on renewing our wedding vows in the next few months after the wedding we are attending so hopefully our boys will still fit into their tuxedos and will be able to use them in our renewal ceremony as well.

For some cute toddler tuxedos, check out this online tuxedo store, TinyTux.com

Toddler Reflux/GERD

Our toddler had an upper GI done recently and we found out he had reflux which is also commonly called GERD. We have always thought he had reflux since he vomits very frequently and cannot tolerate certain foods. We were just waiting for the official diagnosis. Our toddler also arches his back and cries often. These are all symptoms of reflux/gerd in toddlers.

We have to take the results to his DR but I'm sure he will be prescribed medication and a reflux diet. Do any other parents out there have toddlers with reflux? What kind of diet does your child have?

Toddler 2nd Birthday

My son's birthday is tomorrow and he will be turning 2 years old. Up until now I have never really considered him a toddler. I still called him my baby but now he is entering real toddlerdom and the terrible twos! Oh my!

We celebrated his birthday last week with a big pool party with nearly 50 guests. Having parties like this is exhausting, and expensive no matter how hard you try and stick to a budget. I think we will also do something special for him tomorrow since tomorrow is his actual birth date.

What I am wanting to know is what kind of birthday parties do you plan for your toddler? Big parties with lots of people or small parties with immediate family only?

Top Toddler Mom Blog of The Week #1

We are happy to announce our first ever "top toddler mom blog of the week".

Congratulations to J's Mommy!

Please take a moment to read her brief interview with us below then go visit her blog and leave a comment. Tell her we sent you! she also has a new blog where moms can vent and share stories called Lollipop. I recommend a stop there too!

1)Please tell Us more about yourself

I am turning 30 in a few short months. I have one little girl who I call
J on my blog. I work part time at The Little Gym and also teach a private
preschool class. I stumbled onto blogging after looking to jump start my
writing career. I used to write for a teen magazine 'back in the day' which
just means before my baby. I loved it and I got to do a lot of fun things.
When I was about 4 months pregnant, the company I was working for went under and I was out of work. I had just closed on a brand new house two weeks
before I became unemployed. Hubby and I went through a lot of financial
trouble; we had to sell the house and move into a condo pretty far away from
family and friends. Becoming a mother was a struggle for me. It was nothing
like what I thought it would be. Staying home with my daughter was also more
difficult than I expected. I just now feel like I am getting used to being a
mom and my daughter is 3.

2)Tell us about your toddler

My daughter is beautiful, smart, funny, creative, stubborn, willful, and
a royal pain in the butt. Nobody can make me laugh like she does. And nobody
can make me cry like she does either. She's not the most easy going child.
She doesn't transition well, at least that's what all the therapists say.
She sees an occupational therapist as well as a feeding therapist. It's been
a bumpy road and the journey has only just begun. To be fair, J has given me
a lot of joy too. She's silly and she loves to make up words. Her laugh is
infectious and she's so friendly. Another little girl would be lucky to have
her as a friend.

3) What is the best thing about having a mom blog?

The best thing about having a mom blog is being able to talk about things
that only other moms would understand. I don't have a lot of real life mom
friends so my blog is a way to connect with women who are struggling with
the same issues I am. I wish I had something brilliant to say but my
daughter is throwing a fit because I'm 'checking my e-mail' and she wants me
to play with her.

Strict Parenting and Overweight Child

A recent study suggests that strict parenting is associated with a child being overweight. It says that children who have parents that use the authoritarian lifestyle can cause children to have weight problems. The research suggests that the children overeat due to stress.

So if you are one of those parents that make their child eat everything in their plate before getting up from the table then maybe you need to reevaluate what you are doing.

Kids with the least weight problems and stress were obviously the kids with authoritative parents. To find out more about parenting styles and more about this research read the article provided HERE.

Want to find out what your parenting style is? Take the quiz HERE

After reading the article, what do you think? We want to hear your opinions.
