Our Smart Baby: April 2007

Fruity Cheerios And Some Fun

My family was recently sent some samples of the Fruity Cheerios by General Mills to try out. We normally like the plain or honey nut cheerios but we are also fans of sweet fruity cereals such as Fruity Pebbles so I thought this particular cereal would be something we’d like to try.

And the verdict is in: We love them! We’ve eaten 1 1/2 boxes in 2 days. So, yes, they are great and what’s even better is that they have 25% less sugar than the OTHER fruity cereals. You can also taste the corn and oat in Fruity Cheerios which makes it stand out and brings a unique flavor to this cereal.

Overall, our family give this cereal a big thumbs up (from a mom, a dad, and two kids under 7).

And, now for the fun part. YOU can have a chance at trying them out too. I’ve got 10 boxes of Fruity Cheerios to be given away over at our Mom Reviews blog, amomsreview.com

Earth Day Activities For Kids

Earth Day 2007 is on Sunday April 22nd. Earth Day is all about taking care of our planet Earth. Below are some Earth Day Activities. Take some time on that day or any day to learn more about our planet. Celebrate Earth Day by some of the activities suggested here:

1. Have an Earth Day Party. Make decorations out of recycled things. Invite people and talk about how you can make the Earth a better place.

2. Plant some trees or flowers. Get your kids involved. They will love to plant things!

3. Reduce & Recycle. Teach your kids about recycling and how it affects our planet. Show them how to recycle plastic and cans. Show them how to reduce their usage of electricity and water.

4. Read a book about Earth day and recycling.

Above all have fun and celebrate this day!

Fruitabu Organic Fruit Twirls Review

A few weeks ago a representative from The Stretch Island Fruit Company contacted me to see if I would be interested in trying out their product, Fruitabu. Since I had already been looking for products just like this, I was happy to fulfill their request of sampling the fruit twirls and fruit flats.

The Fruitabu products are real organic smooshed fruit with no added sugars. This means no high fructose corn syrup which makes me very happy since my 2 year old has a corn allergy. If you have a child who has a corn allergy you know how hard it is to find fun and good tasting fruit snacks.
There are two different products, the fruit twirls and the fruit flats. The fruit twirls are comparable to fruit rollups except that Fruitabu is so much more healthy for the kids. I’ve never seen anything like the fruit flats before but I have to say they are great and oh so yummy! The hubs and I ate just as many of them as the kids did. The fruit twirl is equal to one serving of fruit and the fruit flat is equal to one half serving of fruit. The USDA recommends five servings of fruit per day and let’s face it, most of us don’t get that. The fruitabu fruit twirls and flats are a great (and healthy) way to get extra servings of fruits.

The fruit twirls come in strawberry, apple, and grape. The fruit flats come in strawberry, apple, grape, rasberry, and apricot. My favorite was apple. The kids favorites were everything EXCEPT rasberry.

You can purchase Fruitabu products at several major grocery stores and health food stores as well as online.

Overall, we give this product a big thumbs up! We like the products, the kids(ages 6 and 2) like them, their nutritious, and actually taste great!

Make Easter Bunny Tracks

Want to put some magic into your child's Easter bunny experience this year? How about making Easter bunny tracks?

Here is how to make believeable Easter bunny tracks:

First get some powder or flour.

Sprinkle it around the Easter baskets or leading to and from the Easter baskets in an easy clean up area.

Then use your hands and the tips of your fingers to form rabbit tracks.

Your young kids will really like this.

Share your Easter bunny track ideas in the comments section.

Healthy Treats For Easter

If you are one of the many parents that give their child an Easter basket then you know how tempting it is too fill the basket up with all that Easter candy from the Walmart/Target candy isle.
But should we be giving our kids all that candy? Don't get me wrong. My kids usually get their fair share of candy but we are all trying to make healthier choices and this year it's one small chocolate bunny only.

You can still give your child treats for their Easter basket. Here are some alternatives that I suggest.

Here are a few healhy alternative treats for your child's Easter basket:

1.) Fruit Leathers
2.) Real Fruit such as apple, orange, banana, peach,
3.)Yogurt Raisins
4.) Organic lollipops

And, try to not think that candy is the only kind of treat you can give. Here are some additional ideas?
How about putting a dollar in a plastic egg?
Or maybe give some sidewalk chalk or a squirt gun?
A traditional kite?
Maybe some collectible cards?
Seed packets for your little farmer.
A new book

If you have any other ideas feel free to share them here and maybe someone will use them.
